How long does it take to become an expert drummer?

I know it is different for everyone, and certain factors play a crucial role in learning. There are time dedication and natural talent.

But how long would you say it takes for a total newbie to become an expert, with diligent practice? Months, years?

It depends on how hard they work toward it. Myself, I could play rock/funk polyrhythms by the end of one summer.
